June 2021 - Depression Awareness

As winter holds us firmly in its grips, it is completely normal for our moods and motivations to take a hit. For some, though, feelings of sadness or hopelessness are stronger than average, which is when a low mood becomes depression.

Depression affects 1 in 7 Australians, with 1 in 6 females and 1 in 8 males experiencing it at some point in their lives. Its prevalence is said to have grown 10 times over the past century, but this alarming rate could be due to reduced stigma and increased open conversations.

Conversations around mental health are so important because they normalise and open doors for treatments and support systems. For that reason, we will spend June focussing on depression, featuring information about depression on our Social Media feeds.

March 2021 - Make March Purple for Epilepsy

For March, we turn our attention to a condition that can be seen as an invisible disability - epilepsy. What is Epilepsy?

10% of the population are at risk of experiencing a seizure during their lifetime, while 3-4% will go on to be diagnosed with epilepsy.

There are seizures that are not epileptic such as those that result from diabetes, kinked blood vessels and a range of other health conditions.

January 2021 - This is Your year!

2020 has been a particularly tough year for most people for various reasons. Plans put on hold, loved ones getting sick, friends getting stuck and running out of toilet paper are just some of the reasons 2020 was tough.

As the new year comes around, we want to empower you! Empower you to be the best version of you. This is the time where most people are motivated to come up with resolutions and we encourage you to do the same. Sure, sometimes the motivation wanes off, but sometimes, they turned into real long term habits.

Last year, Dr Jeffrey decided to follow Yoga with Adrienne's 30 day yoga journey on YouTube, 365 days later, he is still practicing yoga or meditation daily and has not missed a single day! This all happened because he wanted to spend time on his own mental health in 2020 after a very difficult 2019 studying and preparing for Fellowship exams.

So for January, we are not raising awareness to any particular causes or charities, we are simply encouraging you to take on 2021 head on!
